This product in use:

Stove #1 Newer used stove not yet installed, had some rust. This stove was built with a smooth cast iron surface. Like all the other positive reviews it was an easy job. Wire brushed off the rust, wiped on the paste, buffed off the excess, great shine! There seemed to be little in any left in the fine indented surface of the cast iron. I anticipate little to no smoke.

Stove #2 Older one uninstalling and selling soon. This stove has a deep porous cast iron surface. Like all the other negative reviews, was my experience with this stove. It was very difficult to get good coverage seemed to take a lot of paste and it didn't buff off. I wore out the rag I did the first stove with, then two more rags, and a couple pairs of rubber gloves before switching to a wire brush to buff some of the paste off. Knowing there was a lot of wax left in/on the stove surface I lit a fire on a cold day and opened the windows. It smoked heavily for about 30 minutes. End result looks great!

In Conclusion; The surface texture of the cast iron will directly determine the application experience and amount of smoke upon the first lighting. If the 1st stove didn't turn out so good, and go on so easy I would have thought I had a bad product when I started the 2nd stove. additionally I've used liquid stove polish in the past with much less favorable results as this product.
In the end both Stoves looked great!
One stove just took a lot more work.
