Why Use Ceramic Glass for Fireplace Doors?

Ceramic glass is really not glass at all. It is a transparent ceramic product. We generically use the term ceramic, but it is commonly known by one of three different brand names:

Ceramic glass products can withstand a thermal shock rating starting at 1280°F and intense heat up to 1400°F! This heat tolerance makes it ideal for any product where high-temperature applications are needed. High-temperature ceramic glass is suitable for use in gas fireplaces and gas stoves, oil-burning stoves, wood stoves, pellet stoves, coal-burning stoves, and bio-stoves.

Ceramic glass is intended for the following heat stove applications:

  • Gas
  • Oil
  • Wood
  • Pellet
  • Coal
  • Bio-Fuel

NOTE: This glass is not suitable for use on cook-tops or range-tops.

Our Fireplace Glass Door Production Process

We use genuine high-temperature ceramic glass, available in 3/16" or 1/8" thicknesses only. Our ceramic glass is a special formula that combines many of the characteristics of ceramic and tempered glass products. The result is an extremely fire-resistant pane of glass that features a slight amber tint.

We are a well-known source for custom replacement glass for wood stoves! We have many pattern cuts available for your specific application. Whether your insert or stove requires an arch, notches, rounded edges, or other unique features, we have the ability to design a piece of glass to fit your application!

Important Information Regarding Your Custom Glass Doors for Your Fireplace

  • Ceramic glass does not expand much when it is heated, but stove metal does! Your custom-cut ceramic glass should be at least 1/8" shy of the mounting surface, 3/16" is the standard. This measurement will allow for a safe thermal expansion. We cannot be held responsible for glass failure due to improper measurements!
  • If your original ceramic glass sheet is still intact and you are able to obtain all of the dimensions needed for your pattern or rectangle custom-cut product, you may use the glass for measuring purposes. However, we highly recommend double-checking your measurements against the mounting surface for 100% accuracy.
  • Metal screws and mounting hardware also expand when exposed to high temperatures. To avoid damage to your glass when your appliance is in use, please do not over-tighten the hardware. We cannot be held responsible for breaks due to hardware that has been secured too firmly. We recommend using our glass tape gasket whenever possible.

Custom Tempered Glass Cutting

At Woodstove Fireplace Glass, we specialize in creating custom-cut tempered glass that creates an extremely resistant panel for your fireplace, stove, or other project.

Points to Remember About Custom Tempered Glass Cutting

  • Tempered Glass Should Never-Ever Be Used in an Air Tight Wood Stove!
Using tempered glass in an airtight wood stove is highly dangerous and should be strictly avoided. Tempered glass fireplace screens are designed to withstand thermal stress up to a certain extent, but the extreme heat generated in a wood stove can exceed its limits. When subjected to such high temperatures, tempered glass may shatter or explode. It is crucial to use specially designed heat-resistant glass that can handle the intense heat of a wood stove without risk of failure.
  • It Takes 7-10 Business Days for Tempered Glass to Be Processed
To ensure a smooth experience when ordering custom tempered glass, it is vital to plan ahead, considering that the processing time usually spans 7 to 10 business days. This duration is necessary for meticulous manufacturing and tempering of the glass, guaranteeing compliance with strict quality standards and safety regulations. Whether you require replacement glass fireplace doors, a glass tabletop, or any other application, it is strongly recommended to place your order well in advance to avoid any potential delays in receiving your product.
  • Tempered Glass Cannot Be Re-cut. For This Reason, All Custom Tempered Glass Orders Are Final
Once the tempered glass has undergone the tempering process, it gains its characteristic strength and safety properties. However, this also means that it cannot be re-cut or altered in any way. Therefore, it is crucial to be absolutely certain about the measurements and specifications before placing an order for tempered glass. Due to its inability to be reworked, all tempered glass orders are considered final. To avoid any issues with sizing, customers are encouraged to double-check their measurements on the replacement tempered glass and consult with experts to ensure the correct dimensions are provided during the ordering process.
